In partnership with the Parents as Teachers National Center, the Parents as Teachers Washington state office serves as a valued source of information, resources, implementation support and professional development for Parents as Teachers affiliates in Washington and other professionals and organizations throughout the state. We believe that model fidelity, accountability and demonstration of outcomes are important for Parents as Teachers affiliates. To that end, the Washington state office supports local affiliates in their work toward quality implementation and fidelity to the Parents as Teachers model to achieve strong outcomes with families and their children.
About Parents as Teachers
Parents as Teachers builds strong communities, thriving families and children who are healthy, safe and ready to learn by matching parents and caregivers with trained professionals who make regular personal home visits during a child’s earliest years in life, from prenatal through kindergarten. Parents as Teachers is a comprehensive, evidence-based home visiting model which helps guide parents through each important stage in a child’s development with tools for success, ensuring young children are healthy, safe and ready to learn.
About the Model
With the belief that parents are a child’s first advocate and most influential teacher, the Parents as Teachers model provides:
Personal visits support developmentally appropriate activities and share information to empower parents. They are foundational to the model, focusing on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting and family well-being.
Group connections provide families with opportunities to socialize and support each other as well as opportunities for their children to interact with other children of similar age.
Screenings help assess children’s development, health, hearing and vision.
Resource networks provide connections to community resources and helps eliminate barriers to access resources.
