Dr. Tamilah Richardson is a Director on the Start Early Consulting team. In this role, she consults with systems leaders and advocates to build high-quality, equitable early childhood systems.
Tamilah has served the early childhood and elementary education fields for over two decades as a former prekindergarten teacher, administrator, and school library media specialist. Prior to joining Start Early, she was the Director of Early Childhood Learning for the Virginia Department of Education where she provided strategic leadership for early learning support initiatives. Her primary areas of focus were standards, curriculum, assessment, and family engagement.
Dr. Richardson’s work is driven by her passion and commitment to early care and education systems building, equity and excellence in education, culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy, family engagement and empowerment, social emotional learning, and early literacy development. She has earned degrees from Hampton University (BS English-ECE), Old Dominion University (MSEd), and George Washington University (EdS, EdD, Education Administration and Policy Studies). Virginia is forever home for Tamilah and her family.
